Senior Software Engineer - Federal Government Contract (EL1 Equivalent)
Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid Work Arrangement)
Contract Duration: 12 months + up to 24 months
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain NV1
Start Date: February 2026
Are you a seasoned Software Engineer looking to make an impact in a high-profile federal environment? We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a dynamic team delivering critical ICT services for a major government agency.
About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across software development projects, ensuring high-quality, functional outcomes. You'll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and contribute to the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse requirements and existing applications
- Design and update artefacts and interfaces using C# .NET, Microsoft SQL Server, IIS, Grafana, and RabbitMQ
- Perform DevOps tasks including Group Policy, Citrix Management, and PowerShell scripting
- Implement changes and coordinate with testing, release, and operations teams
- Mentor and coach team members, sharing expertise and promoting best practices
- Maintain documentation and records in line with agency standards
- Stay current with ICT trends and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in software development and technical leadership
- Strong skills in system design, integration, and configuration
- Familiarity with SFIA Level 5 responsibilities across programming, deployment, and design
- Ability to work effectively in small teams and broader command environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Eligibility
- Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance
- Australian citizenship required
