Senior Data Scientist - EL1 Equivalent
Location: Barton, ACT (Remote considered for the right candidate)
Duration: 30 weeks (01 November 2025 - 30 June 2026)
Security Clearance: AGSVA NV1 or higher (NV2 preferred)
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary Range: $123,163 - $137,768 p.a.
Hourly Rate: $146.46/hour (ex. GST)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Data Scientist to join a federal government department and contribute to the development of advanced data capabilities. This role is pivotal in enabling data-informed decision-making across policy and program areas, with a strong focus on data engineering, analysis, and AI-driven insights.
Key Responsibilities
Data Systems Development
- Identify and develop relevant open-source and official data sources.
- Collaborate with Power BI developers to build and maintain data models.
- Extend and maintain ETL pipelines and data cleaning scripts using Python.
Data Analysis & Visualisation
- Conduct in-depth analysis to support policy and program initiatives.
- Create dashboards and visualisations to communicate insights effectively.
AI Tool Development
- Maintain and enhance AI tools for summarising and analysing diverse data sources.
- Adapt tools for new use cases based on stakeholder needs.
- Ensure documentation and compliance with internal standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with internal teams to understand data needs and deliver tailored solutions.
- Provide expert advice on data collection, integrity, and interpretation.
Additional Data Services
- Support broader data initiatives aligned with the Southeast Asia Data Analytics Section.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in data science, engineering, and architecture.
- Proficiency in Python and associated data tools.
- Strong background in ETL processes, data modelling, and visualisation (e.g., Power BI).
- Familiarity with AI/ML tools and platforms (e.g., OpenAI, Azure).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Desirable
- Experience in government or policy-related environments.
- NV2 clearance.
