Key tasks / responsibilities:
As the Network Engineer you will have responsibility for the following:
- Providing administration, maintenance, and support tasks specifically within the context of Networking (SFIA Level 5 - NTAS)
- The ability to analyse the capacity of ICT services including WAN bandwidth and ICT infrastructure and provide advice to customers (SFIA Level 4 - CPMG);
- Proactively monitoring critical ICT services including switching, wireless, and routing (SFIA Level 4 - AVMT);
- Undertake troubleshooting and problem-solving activities where required (SFIA Level 3 - PBMG);
- Have knowledge and capability to support Vulnerability and Cyber Security practices within the Networks team
- Support the Department's existing ITIL processes including Change, Incident, and Problem management
- Develop and maintain standardised processes and procedures, and providing training and mentoring to peers in technical processes.
- Provide a strong technical support capability, ensuring requests align with set standards and procedures, and meet agreed service levels, with the capability to develop and improve operating procedures. (SFIA, Level 4 - ITOP)
- Provide advanced skills in the areas of operational responses to emerging needs, fault diagnosis and failures, and proactively initiate remedial action.
- Provide technical information in report format, which can be consumed by team leaders, management and other departmental staff. (SFIA, Level 4 - ITOP)
- Maintain a high level of quality in the performance of all duties, ensuring adherence to quality assurance expectations, policies and procedures, government and industry standards and best practices, proactively seeking improvements in the way in which work is undertaken.
- Act as an integral part of the departmental ICT operations teams, providing advice and support to other operational teams, regional ICT teams, school representatives and other departmental staff, in relation to fault resolution and new technology development.
- Maintain currency of knowledge, through research and investigation of the latest technologies being offered in the IT and communications industry.
Capabilities / Desirable attributes
- Experience in working in a project delivery environment.
- It is highly desirable that applicants have previous experience with or background in the following technologies and systems:
- Juniper Security Appliances (SRX etc)
- Cisco Routing and Switching (NX-OS, IOS, and IOS-XE)
- 3Com / H3C / HPE Switching and Wireless
- HPE / Aruba Switching and Wireless technologies (e.g. ClearPass)
- Cisco ISE and Cisco Wireless technologies
- F5 Local Traffic Manager, Global Traffic Manager, and Application Security Manager
- HPE Intelligent Management Centre and Cisco Prime (Network Management Systems)
