Java Developer

Location: ACT

Initial contract: Until 30th June 2024

Extension: Up to 6 months

Clearance: Baseline Clearance

Duties:

Services to include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Develop software applications to meet business requirements to support Corporate Systems Branch projects/programs using Java with respect to System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile development practices and processes.
  • Manage productive stakeholder relationships and associated risks.
  • Develop an agreed work plan including key performance indicators and outcomes.
  • Regular reporting against performance and effort.
  • Undertake knowledge transfer and upskilling, along with development of documentation.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop business solutions through the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile development practices and processes to meet the deliverables as a java developer.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide technical leadership and guidance throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Drive innovation by staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Experience in developing front end applications and working collaboratively with business stakeholders in the co-design, co-build, co-deliver phases.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated initiative - highly motivated and focussed on delivering quality outcomes.
  • Experience working in a project team delivering outcomes in defined timelines to agreed quality standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in Java programming:
    • Experience working in a small multi-disciplinary team based on an Agile software development methodology,
    • Ability to interpret user requirements / user stories and produce code with minimal defects,
    • Experience working in an enterprise software development environment and ability to leverage off existing software frameworks and development processes (GIT & Azure Dev Ops, recent experience developing applications on IBM WebSphere Application Server/Portal Server platforms using PrimeFaces UI framework/MyFaces implementation),
    • Ability to develop software where users are authenticated and unauthenticated (MyGov for external users and VANguard Federated Authentication Service (FAS) for internal users/single Sign on etc),
    • Intellij and Maven build tools.
    • Experience using SOAP, XML, EJB 3 and Web Services/RESTful APIs.
    • Proficient in Java/J2EE/JEE design and development.
    • Exposure to and familiarity in writing Junit test cases.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or certification as a Java Developer

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in UX/UI practices and standards
  • Experience with the Vue framework
  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React, Angular, etc) and back-end frameworks (Spring, Micronaut etc).
