Cyber Security Operations Manager - Contract to Perm - Melbourne

Overview
Join a major public sector organisation undergoing a cyber uplift. This newly created role blends hands-on technical leadership with operational oversight. You'll lead a small but growing team, manage a suite of enterprise-grade security tools, and drive incident response maturity.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations of security tools (EDR, CASB, firewalls, email security, PAM)
  • Manage incident response, triage, and escalation workflows
  • Optimise and maintain existing security infrastructure
  • Coordinate internal cyber exercises and awareness programs
  • Interface with outsourced SOC and internal architecture teams
  • Align operations to ACSC Essential 8, ISO27001, NIST, and sector-specific frameworks
  • Support executive reporting and cyber governance activities

Must-Have Skills

  • Senior-level experience in technical cyber operations
  • Strong hands-on capability across EDR, vulnerability management, cloud security, and firewalls
  • Proven people leadership (team lead or manager level)
  • Incident response and triage experience
  • Excellent communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Cisco security stack and SDA networks
  • Exposure to public sector or regulated environments

Nice-to-Haves

  • Certifications: SSCP, CCSP, GSEC, or similar
  • Experience with vendor management and SLAs
  • Prior work in healthcare or critical infrastructure
