This is a rare opportunity to lead the technical delivery of a major application upgrade program within a high‑availability, operationally critical environment.

About the Program

This organisation is undergoing a significant uplift of a complex, deeply integrated enterprise application with extensive interfaces to external systems and field technologies. The upgrade includes modernising platform components, resolving long‑standing integration challenges, and delivering improved reliability across a high‑volume transactional environment. You will play a pivotal role in providing technical leadership, decision‑making, and oversight across multiple streams of work.

The Role

Reporting to the Program Manager, you will act as the Technical Lead across a broad ecosystem of vendors, infrastructure teams, integration specialists, and application SMEs. You will oversee approximately 15-20 technical contributors and be the point of escalation for complex cross‑stack issues application, Linux OS, middleware, networking, and integration layers.

Your remit spans solution assurance, troubleshooting, design validation, and guiding the successful deployment of a major upgrade with numerous external system touchpoints. This environment is highly interconnected, meaning issues can arise in application components, OS layers, middleware, or integration pathways-you will be the person who leads the technical diagnosis and determines root cause ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide end‑to‑end technical leadership across a major platform upgrade and its associated integration workstreams.
  • Lead technical troubleshooting across application, OS (Linux), middleware, infrastructure, and complex integration layers.
  • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring designs, deliverables, and technical commitments are met.
  • Guide internal teams across infrastructure, networking, application development, and integration.
  • Drive technical decisions on architecture, data flows, interfaces, and upgrade approaches.
  • Provide evidence‑based analysis to resolve accountability between vendors, internal teams, and system components.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent workstreams and ensure alignment across all technical stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a seasoned technical leader with 8+ years in complex enterprise environments, ideally across highly integrated or mission‑critical platforms.

You'll need:

  • Strong Linux experience and comfort working across OS‑level diagnostics.
  • Deep troubleshooting capability across multi‑layered technology stacks.
  • Solid understanding of middleware, networking fundamentals, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Experience with JMS or similar messaging technologies.
  • Background in application‑led environments with exposure to infrastructure and networking.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams (15-20 people) through complex upgrades.
  • A calm, analytical, and evidence‑driven problem‑solver.

Candidates from utilities, telco network operations, defence, energy, enterprise applications, or other large‑scale operational systems tend to excel in this environment.

The Ideal Person

You're someone who enjoys:

  • untangling complex technical issues,
  • guiding diverse teams through ambiguity,
  • balancing vendor accountability with internal delivery, and
  • ensuring all parts of a system work together seamlessly.
