Systems Architect - Federal Government | 12-Month Contract + Extension

Location: Canberra, ACT (Onsite/Hybrid) 3 Days in Office
Contract Term: 12 months with 1 x 12-month extension option
Start Date: December 2025



About the Role

Join a major Federal Government program as a Systems Architect, providing strategic advice and high-quality architecture artefacts to guide technology direction. This role works closely with technical SMEs, business stakeholders, and delivery teams to ensure alignment with strategic objectives, contemporary practices, and whole-of-government standards.

This is a strategic role without people-leadership responsibilities, ideal for someone passionate about shaping enterprise technology landscapes.




Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing technology strategies and roadmaps to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and update enterprise technology artefacts:
    • Target-state architectures
    • Capability blueprints
    • Transition roadmaps
  • Translate strategic direction into actionable implementation pathways for executive endorsement.
  • Collaborate with technical SMEs to validate assumptions and ensure operational alignment.
  • Support architectural governance through decision papers, impact assessments, and technical position statements.
  • Ensure compliance with whole-of-government frameworks (Australian Government Architecture, Digital Service Standard, ISM, data governance).



What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience developing technology strategies and implementation roadmaps in large or complex organisations.
  • Strong understanding across key domains:
    • Identity & Access Management (IDAM)
    • Microsoft 365
    • Cloud (Azure)
    • Cyber Security
    • Integration
    • Data platforms
    • Enterprise applications
  • Experience in Australian Government environments and familiarity with whole-of-government standards.

Highly Desirable:

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications in architecture or cloud technologies.
