The role of the SAP Operational Procurement and Inventory Management (OPIM) Functional Consultant is to provide expert advice and the ability to analyse the department's current S/4HANA 1709 environment and outline pragmatic solution options for identified business requirements.

The responsibilities and duties to be undertaken by the role include but are not limited to:

  • Work within a project environment to deliver project milestones, deliverables and outcomes for assigned scope.
  • Provide current best practice with regards to supply chain processes and IT solutions.
  • Engage with key stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to identify and define the business requirements, understand process pain points and future requirements.
  • Work with the business to redesign and simplify their existing processes and solution.
  • Design, build, test, implement and support client-specific solutions to meet business requirements as needed.
  • Preparation of project documentation (discussion papers, data standards, process diagrams, detailed process documentation, functional specifications, test scripts, etc.).
  • Actively engage with Solution Architects, IT peers and the Project Manager to:
    • Ensure that they understand the business requirements and proposed solutions.
    • Maintain assurance of end-state design and processes to ensure they are relevant, integrated and fit for purpose for strategic and other key initiatives.
  • Support the departmental change management process to ensure maximum utilisation of the solutions developed.
  • Organisational duties include the following:
    • Contribute to the effective management of the Division by adhering to relevant financial management practices, quality management practices (ISO:9001) and public administration policies (related to Freedom of Information, Judicial Review etc).
    • Discharge responsibilities of the position with reference to employment equity, antidiscrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviour.
    • Ensure that the information of the department is managed in accordance with Departmental Information Security Policy and Standards; in order to ensure its confidentiality, availability and integrity.
    • Be able to work on-site in Brisbane with the team with the ability to travel within Queensland on an as-needs basis.
    • Other duties as directed


You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key attributes. Within the context of the responsibilities described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in:
    • SAP configuration experience in S/4HANA and/or ECC6 in the areas of Materials Management (Purchasing, Inventory Management, Physical Inventory, Material Master, MRP, Services, etc.) and Extended Warehouse Management
    • Supply chain business practices,
    • Supply chain IT solutions,
    • Business process design/redesign and implementation in the areas of operational procurement and inventory,
    • Gathering business requirements and mapping them into a system design including development of relevant system development lifecycle documentation e.g. configuration and functional specifications etc.
    • SAP implementations (design through to support),
    • Integration of the Supply Chain into other business processes (e.g. Record to Report, Master data Governance, Contract to Cash, Manage Physical Assets, etc.) - desirable
  • Excellent collaboration, influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving
  • Logical and structured decision making
  • SAP certified consultant (optional but an advantage)
  • Experience in the Health industry (optional but an advantage).
