Cyber Security Threat Hunter - Principal Level (EL2 Equivalent)
Location: ACT | Work Type: Contract | Duration: 12 Months + Extensions
Clearance: NV1 (Active) Required

Are you a seasoned Cyber Security professional with a passion for proactive threat hunting and protecting critical infrastructure? We're seeking a Cyber Security Threat Hunter to join a high-impact government team responsible for safeguarding a global network from malicious actors.

About the Role

As a Cyber Security Threat Hunter, you will be part of a dynamic Cyber Operations team, leveraging threat intelligence and analytical skills to proactively detect and respond to threats. You'll play a key role in developing detection tools, refining hypotheses based on emerging threats, and enhancing the organisation's cyber resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct proactive threat hunts across enterprise networks
  • Leverage Cyber Threat Intelligence to support hunt activities
  • Develop and maintain threat detection tools, dashboards, and custom use cases
  • Analyse logs and security events to identify anomalous activity
  • Recommend security enhancements and countermeasures
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to knowledge sharing
  • Maintain high-quality technical documentation

Skills & Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum 3 years in Cyber Security Incident Response or Threat Hunting
  • Proficiency with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, Sentinel)
  • Experience using MITRE ATT&CK framework
  • Strong skills in designing and testing detection use cases
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Well-developed technical writing abilities

Desirable Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a technical field
  • Certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, Microsoft or Splunk
  • NV2 or higher clearance (or ability to obtain)

Contract Details

  • Start Date: Monday, 17 November 2025
  • Initial Term: 12 months
  • Extension Options: Up to 2 x 12-month terms
  • Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
  • Working Arrangement: Hybrid (typically 3 days in office, 2 days WFH)
  • Security Clearance: Must hold an active NV1 clearance (no exceptions)
  • Stand-down Period: December-January (4-6 weeks, at client discretion)
