The Role

You will be responsible for implementing upgrades, supporting transformation activities, and providing technical support across customer networks. The role involves working closely with field teams, architects, product groups and customers to deliver network changes safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement upgrades and configuration changes on Ciena and multi‑vendor equipment.
• Support network audits, design activities and development of modernisation solutions.
• Prepare and execute EMOPs for new deployments and in‑service upgrades.
• Validate proposed procedural steps in lab environments prior to rollout.
• Support onsite and remote execution for field engineering teams.
• Lead turn‑up, testing and verification of Ciena product lines.
• Analyse results, prepare reports and assist with defect investigations.
• Assist with demos, interoperability tests, and customer evaluations.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

Skills & Experience

• Strong background in data networking, including Carrier Ethernet, IP/MPLS, IGP/BGP, Segment Routing and EVPN.
• Hands-on experience with IP/MPLS service provider or enterprise networks.
• Solid troubleshooting skills across complex networking environments.
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux system operations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and technical documentation skills.
• Experience with Ciena platforms (CES, 54xx, 6500) or similar vendor equipment (desirable).
• Scripting or automation skills (Python, Java, JavaScript, REST APIs, TCL/Expect) beneficial.
• Understanding of 4G/5G, xRAN, SDN or network virtualisation (advantageous).
• Exposure to tools such as Git, Jenkins or similar CI/CD technologies.
• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 4+ years' experience in system, network or test engineering roles.
