Experis Australia is assisting our client in sourcing a highly experienced Lead User Experience Designer for a major program of work commencing March 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned UX professional (5-10 years experience) to lead design activities across a complex digital environment while shaping high‑quality, accessible and user‑centred solutions.

This position is offered as a 12‑month contract, with a 1‑year extension option, and requires the successful candidate to work 40% onsite in Canberra.


Key Duties & Responsibilities
As the Lead UX Designer, you will:

  • Conduct user research to understand user needs, pain points, goals, and behaviours.
  • Develop user personas, user journeys, and user flows in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Design intuitive user interfaces that meet accessibility and usability standards.
  • Apply User‑Centred Design principles and provide design leadership across delivery teams.
  • Lead definition of user experience requirements and contribute to usability and accessibility testing.
  • Work closely with development teams to align business requirements, user needs, and technical constraints.
  • Produce detailed UX design artefacts and prototypes for implementation.
  • Support quality assurance by validating UX requirements and ensuring final solutions meet user expectations.


About You - Skills & Experience

To be successful, you will bring:

  • 5-10 years' recent experience as a UX or Lead UX Designer in complex digital environments.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering User‑Centred Design outcomes.
  • Strong capability in user research, prototyping, accessibility standards, and UI design.
  • Experience collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams (business, design, development, testing).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to provide design direction, coaching and feedback to other team members.
  • Australian Citizenship with an active Baseline Security Clearance (mandatory).
