A large Federal Government Agency is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join a high‑performing Cyber Operations team. This role is critical in strengthening cyber capabilities, ensuring the protection and resilience of enterprise networks, and supporting long‑term security uplift initiatives.
You will apply advanced engineering skills to enhance automation, improve SOC operations, and contribute to the development of cyber defence playbooks and workflows.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will:
- Contribute to long‑term security operations uplift initiatives and capability roadmaps.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve SOC efficiency and operational consistency.
- Develop and maintain cyber security playbooks and automated workflows.
- Analyse security logs and events to detect malicious activity, provide recommendations, and help develop countermeasures.
- Perform incident response and remediation activities.
- Support threat hunting operations and collaborate with broader cyber teams.
Essential Criteria
To be considered, you must demonstrate the following:
- Minimum 3 years' experience working as a Cyber Security Engineer.
- Experience building and maintaining reliable integrations between SIEM platforms and enterprise systems.
- Demonstrated understanding of log ingestion for hybrid environments including Azure and AWS.
- Experience designing, implementing, and testing security automation playbooks and workflows.
- Strong team collaboration skills and a willingness to share knowledge.
- Well‑developed written communication skills and experience maintaining technical documentation.
Desirable Criteria
Candidates with the following will be highly regarded:
- Experience administering Nuix for eDiscovery or investigative data processing.
- Experience using Splunk SOAR to develop playbooks.
- Knowledge of Splunk Risk‑Based Alerting (RBA).
- Tertiary qualifications and/or certifications such as Microsoft, Splunk, CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, etc.
