A leading Federal Government agency is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Analyst to join a highly specialised Cyber Operations function. This role is critical to supporting cyber operations, strengthening organisational resilience, and protecting a large, distributed network from malicious activity.
You will be part of a team responsible for security monitoring, threat analysis, incident response, and continuous improvement of cyber security capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with log operationalisation and develop use cases for newly onboarded systems and log sources.
  • Monitor, optimise, and uplift cyber security tools and systems.
  • Develop and maintain cyber security playbooks and procedures.
  • Analyse security events and logs to identify malicious activity, recommend controls, and contribute to the design of countermeasures.
  • Perform incident response, remediation activities, and contribute to cyber investigations.
  • Assist with threat hunting initiatives and work closely with internal threat intelligence teams.

Essential Criteria

To be considered, you must demonstrate:

  1. Minimum 3 years' experience working as a Cyber Security Analyst.
  2. Experience designing, implementing, and testing use cases to detect malicious activities.
  3. Hands‑on experience performing incident response functions.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively, share knowledge, and contribute to a high‑performing team culture.
  5. Strong written communication skills and experience maintaining technical documentation.
  6. Experience working with threat intelligence feeds and applying insights to security operations.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience using or administering Microsoft Defender XDR and Defender for Cloud.
  2. Experience creating playbooks using Splunk SOAR.
  3. Knowledge of Splunk Risk‑Based Alerting (RBA).
  4. Tertiary qualifications and/or cyber certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, or GCIA.
