Lead Cyber Security Architect (Azure)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Cyber Security Architect with strong Microsoft Azure expertise to join a major government program. This role will provide architectural leadership, security design, and technical guidance to ensure compliance with Australian Government security standards and deliver a secure, scalable cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities



Security Architecture & Design

  • Design and implement secure IT solutions aligned with Australian Government security standards (ISM, PSPF).
  • Provide architectural guidance and risk assessments across projects, ensuring security by design.
  • Review existing architectures, identify security gaps, and develop remediation plans.
  • Liaise with stakeholders (business, technical, management, and security operations) to embed security requirements in project delivery.
  • Assess in-flight project work to improve security posture ahead of penetration testing and external reviews.
  • Advise on integration of cloud services, networks, identity, and access management solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience providing security architecture and design for the Australian Government.


Security-Focused Engineering & Delivery

  • Implement security best practices for Microsoft Azure services to protect against cyber threats.
  • Configure, manage, and monitor security tools and technologies (networking, logging, intrusion detection/prevention).
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Draft Threat and Risk Assessments for products/services.
  • Test and evaluate products/services for security considerations.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and administering Azure solutions for the Australian Government.


Vendor Engagement & Management

  • Manage vendors engaged for IRAP assessments, penetration testing, and other security services.
  • Provide support to remove blockers, supply evidence, and remediate technical and business issues.
  • Triage vendor requests and engage appropriate team members.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or supporting an IRAP process for the Australian Government.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of Azure services and cloud architecture.
  • Proven experience implementing security measures and controls in Azure (highly desirable).
  • Understanding of compliance standards (ISM, PSPF).
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Desirable

  • Experience with Zero Trust Architecture, identity management, and secure cloud migration.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automation tools.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, CISSP, SABSA).
