Experis Australia has partnered with a leading Federal Government agency to recruit a Cyber Security Engineer for a critical 12-month contract with two 12-month extensions.

This is a pivotal role in the Cyber Operations Section, combining both engineering and analytical skills to defend a globally connected network against sophisticated cyber threats. Cyber Security Engineer - Federal Government | 12 + 2 ext Contract
Location: Canberra, ACT (Onsite/Hybrid)
Clearance: Must be an Australian Citizen with active NV1 clearance or the ability to obtain one

Your Role Will Include:

  • Supporting defensive cyber operations across government platforms

  • Maintaining and enhancing SPLUNK infrastructure

  • Designing and implementing use cases to detect malicious activity

  • Supporting log ingestion from hybrid cloud environments (Azure & AWS)

  • Collaborating closely with technical teams and documenting technical solutions


To Be Successful, You Will Bring:

Essential:

  • 3+ years' experience as a Cyber Security Analyst or Engineer

  • Hands-on experience with SPLUNK or similar SIEM tools

  • Strong understanding of hybrid cloud environments (Azure/AWS)

  • Proven capability in use case development, implementation, and testing

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

  • Team-oriented mindset with a proactive knowledge-sharing approach

Highly Regarded:

  • Experience with Splunk SOAR and developing Playbooks

  • Understanding of Risk Based Alerting (RBA) in Splunk

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or certifications (Microsoft, Splunk, CISSP, GCIH, GCIA)
