Product Manager - GovAI Chat
Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid working arrangements available)
Estimated Start Date: 12 January 2026
Contract Duration: 12 months (with up to three 6-month extensions)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Security Clearance: Baseline
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead the development of GovAI Chat, a purpose-built generative AI assistant designed to empower Australian Public Service (APS) staff. This is a unique opportunity to drive innovation in government and shape the future of digital services.
As Product Manager, you will define the product vision, lead cross-functional teams, and deliver a secure, user-focused AI solution that transforms the way APS operates. Key Responsibilities
- Define and communicate product vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with organisational goals.
- Lead agile delivery of product features and enhancements.
- Engage stakeholders to gather requirements and prioritise features.
- Develop and maintain product documentation including user stories and release notes.
- Monitor product performance and user feedback for continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with public sector frameworks and security standards.
- Facilitate planning sessions, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Represent the organisation in governance forums and provide updates to senior leadership.
- Oversee change management processes and stakeholder communications.
- Champion innovation and adoption of best practices.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in digital product management, ideally in government or digital service environments.
- Strong understanding of Generative AI, Large Language Models, and practical applications.
- Expertise in agile methodologies and product lifecycle management.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to deliver outcomes in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Familiarity with government standards, regulations, and security requirements.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
