Senior Scrum Master

Contract opportunity

We are seeking experienced Scrum Masters to support the delivery of high impact digital and technology initiatives within a large and complex government environment. This role is well suited to senior practitioners who are passionate about agile delivery, team performance and coaching high performing multi disciplinary teams.

The opportunity

This is an initial contract of up to 12 months with strong extension potential up to a maximum of 24 months. The estimated start date is 1 July 2026.

You will work in a hybrid arrangement, based in a capital city location across NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD or SA. The first six weeks will be full time onsite, followed by a hybrid model typically three days per week onsite.

Key responsibilities

As a Senior Scrum Master, you will

* Coach delivery teams in agile values, principles and practices, modelling an agile mindset
* Facilitate agile ceremonies including daily stand ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives
* Work closely with Delivery Managers and Product Owners to remove blockers and optimise delivery flow
* Enable teams to plan, commit to and achieve their delivery goals
* Shape and tailor agile processes based on team maturity and context
* Protect teams from external interruptions and help them negotiate priorities
* Support teams to establish and maintain velocity and delivery momentum
* Improve team cohesion, performance, motivation and psychological safety
* Identify and manage risks, issues and dependencies across teams
* Coordinate with other teams to manage dependencies and shared outcomes
* Represent teams in stakeholder forums and communicate outcomes back to the team
* Coach and mentor less experienced Scrum Masters and contribute to communities of practice
* Research and apply contemporary agile practices, tools and trends to continuously improve delivery

Skills and experience

To be successful, you will have

* A minimum of 3 years experience working as a Scrum Master supporting one or more multi disciplinary teams
* Strong knowledge and application of agile values, principles and practices
* Experience with continuous delivery and product delivery lifecycles
* Understanding of team dynamics and high performance delivery environments
* Experience using agile tools such as Jira
* Familiarity with Lean and Kanban practices
* Scrum certification is desirable

This role aligns to APS6 to EL1 equivalent experience.

Security requirements

You must be an Australian citizen and hold a Baseline security clearance.

Working arrangements

* Full time contract up to 40 hours per week
* Capital city locations only NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD, SA
* Hybrid working model after initial onsite period
